This video tutorial shows how to create a lighted american flag using christmas lights!
I used incandescent lights, or mini lights, for this project. Here are the links to the ones I used, if you’re interested:
Time needed: >1 hour
- light sets (above)
- plastic board (such as an old campaign sign)
- screwdriver or something else to make holes in the board
- electrical tape
If you have leftover lights, just tape them or tie them to the back of the board.
**Disclaimer: Due to the nature of this project, I would recommend only placing this decoration outdoors. Don’t leave it unattended (when it’s plugged in) for long periods of time – always keep an eye on it, and unplug it if no one will be home. If you can, use led lights, as they get less hot. **
This video tutorial shows how to create an American flag out of ribbon. This looks great on a door in place of a wreath!
You could definitely make other flags using this method, or just hang pretty colors of ribbon. There’s a lot of ways to change it up!
Time needed: >30 minutes
- a twig or thin wooden rod
- twine or string
- blue ribbon
- red ribbon
- white ribbon
- hot glue
I purchased all my colors of ribbon at Hobby Lobby.

The 4th of July is almost here! Here is a diy patriotic shirt that would be perfect for the occasion. This design was created by hand in Adobe Illustrator.
If you don’t have a cutting machine such as a Cricut or Silhouette, you can still make this! Towards the end of the video I go over a method for hand cutting this design using an Xacto knife. I’m sure a google search would also turn up other resources out there about this subject.
Here for the .PNG files:
Here is the file for hand cutting: Sweet Land Hand cut File
I will post the .SVG file here for purchase as soon as it is posted. You definitely don’t need to buy it – but sometimes it is nice to have other files types and they are a bit more work to make.
